Left-hand drive used Japanese cars are permitted for import in Finland. Japanese used vehicles are inspected for their import in Finland. The inspection can be done after the vehicle has arrived in the country. A copy of the inspection certificate can be attached along with the car tax declaration to fasten the tax implementation process at the Customs.

  • Commercial invoice (original)
  • Receipts of payments (original)
  • Title and Registration certificate (original)
  • Employment proof (from the country of origin)
  • Origin Insurance Policy and Finnish Insurance Policy (original)
  • Passport and driver’s license (date of arrival in Finland must be clearly stated)
  • Customs Forms (for motor vehicles)

TAXATION
  • Car tax declaration should be submitted and the car tax should be paid if the used vehicle is not registered in Finland.
  • A document of declaration of the vehicle should be submitted to the Finnish Tax Administration if the vehicle is intended to be used before its registration in Finland.
  • Within 5 days after the submission of the declaration of use, a car tax declaration along with the enclosures must be submitted.
  • The car tax decision will then be delivered to your home address by post.
  • The car tax must be paid in under 15 days of the date of the decision.
  • On the due date of the car tax, the permission to use the car on the basis of the declaration of use will no longer be given. The vehicle then must be registered in order to use it in Finland.
  • 24% VAT will be charged on the import of used cars from Japan.
