DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR REGISTRATION OF VEHICLES
  • Proof of cancellation
  • Vehicle registration document (original and copy, with certified Italian translation)
  • Certificate of roadworthiness (with Italian translation)
  • Registration request form TT2119
  • Technical specification form (exemption provided for returning citizens of Italy)
EXEMPTION IN DUTY
  • The exemption is duty is given on the import of used vehicles if the vehicle has been owned by the owner for no less than one year. The vehicles on which duty is given are not allowed to be sold for at least a year.
  • Non-residents of Italy are allowed to import one vehicle with exemption in duty. However, they have to provide proof of ownership of the vehicle for the one year time period by providing the Certificate of Origin. If the vehicle has been owned for less than a year, then the importer is not allowed to sell, transfer, or dispose of the vehicle after importation.
  • Returning residents are given exemption in duty provided that they have lived abroad for no less than 18 months and have owned the vehicle for at least 6 months. Proof of residence and ownership must be presented.

  • Passport of Telespresso (copy, Telespresso for diplomats)
  • Italian Fiscal Code (copy, for returning residents)
  • Title and Registration certificate (original, in notarized translation in the Italian language)
  • Commercial invoice (original)
  • Driver’s license and International Insurance Policy Card (green card)
  • Technical Data Sheet (this document states the technical details of the car and the declaration of conformities with the requirements of EU)

  • Insurance policy
TAXATION
  • 11% of the value of the used Japanese vehicle will be imposed as Customs duty.
  • 21% of the value of the used vehicle will be charged as VAT.
