DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR THE IMPORT OF VEHICLES
  • Bill of Lading (original)
  • Contract of client’s work (copy)
  • Commercial invoice (original)
  • Title and Registration certificate (original)
  • Driver’s license and international insurance policy (green card)
The Bill of Lading must clearly show the details like engine number, chassis number, year of manufacture, brand, and model of the used Japanese car.
TAXATION
Taxes and duties imposed on the import of Japan used vehicles:
  • For vehicles with up to 2000cc engine and seating capacity of fewer than 10 persons:
  • 25% Import Duty, 15% Excise Duty, 16.5% VAT
  • For vehicles with 2000cc - 2500cc engine and seating capacity of fewer than 10 persons:
  • 25% Import Duty, 16.5% Excise Duty, 30% VAT
  • For vehicles with 2500cc - 3000cc engine and seating capacity of fewer than 10 persons:
  • 25% Import Duty, 40% Excise Duty, 16.5% VAT
  • For vehicles with 3000cc and above the engine and seating capacity of fewer than 10 persons:
  • 25% Import Duty, 50% Excise Duty, 16.5% VAT
  • Minibus having a carrying capacity of 10 persons: 25% Import Duty, 16.5% VAT
  • Trucks weighing less than 3 tons: 10% Import Duty, 5% Excise Duty, 16.5% VAT
  • Trucks weighing more than 3 tons: 1.10% Import Duty, 2.50% Excise Duty
  • Trucks weighing more than 10 tons: 1.50% Excise Duty
