Left-hand-drive used Japanese vehicles are permitted for import in Mauritania.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR THE IMPORT OF VEHICLES
- Title and Registration certificate
- Commercial invoice
- Certificate of Inspection (provided by Societe Generale de Surveillance)
- Bill of Lading or Certificate of Origin (chassis and engine number, and weight of the vehicle should be clearly mentioned in BoL)
- Insurance certificate
TAXATION
- 9% to 27% of the tax rate will be levied as per the vehicle’s utility.
- 78% of the car’s value will be charged as tax if the vehicle is new.
- 50% of the value of the used vehicle will be charged as tax.
- VAT is also imposed on the import of used vehicles from Japan.
- If the used vehicles from Japan are being imported temporarily, then exemption on tax can be given.
- Exemption on duty and taxes is given in the import of the vehicles by diplomats.
