Left-hand-drive used Japanese vehicles are permitted for import in Mauritania.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR THE IMPORT OF VEHICLES
  • Title and Registration certificate
  • Commercial invoice
  • Certificate of Inspection (provided by Societe Generale de Surveillance)
  • Bill of Lading or Certificate of Origin (chassis and engine number, and weight of the vehicle should be clearly mentioned in BoL)
  • Insurance certificate
All the documents should be given to the agent a month before the import of the used vehicle from Japan.
TAXATION
  • 9% to 27% of the tax rate will be levied as per the vehicle’s utility.
  • 78% of the car’s value will be charged as tax if the vehicle is new.
  • 50% of the value of the used vehicle will be charged as tax.
  • VAT is also imposed on the import of used vehicles from Japan.
  • If the used vehicles from Japan are being imported temporarily, then exemption on tax can be given.
  • Exemption on duty and taxes is given in the import of the vehicles by diplomats.
