Left-hand-drive used Japanese vehicles are permitted for import in Mauritania.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR THE IMPORT OF VEHICLES

Title and Registration certificate
Commercial invoice
Certificate of Inspection (provided by Societe Generale de Surveillance)
Bill of Lading or Certificate of Origin (chassis and engine number, and weight of the vehicle should be clearly mentioned in BoL)
Insurance certificate

All the documents should be given to the agent a month before the import of the used vehicle from Japan.

TAXATION

9% to 27% of the tax rate will be levied as per the vehicle’s utility.
78% of the car’s value will be charged as tax if the vehicle is new.
50% of the value of the used vehicle will be charged as tax.
VAT is also imposed on the import of used vehicles from Japan.
If the used vehicles from Japan are being imported temporarily, then exemption on tax can be given.
Exemption on duty and taxes is given in the import of the vehicles by diplomats.
