Used vehicles from Japan can also be imported in Mozambique through Durban port (South Africa). Right-hand drive vehicles are permitted for import from Japan with exceptions given for special purpose vehicles such as fire engines, ambulances, etc. Used Japanese vehicles to be imported in Mozambique have to go through Intertek inspection. MOZ number should also be obtained from the Intertek office in Maputo.
An invoice stating the engine number of the vehicle is required to apply for the MOZ number.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR THE IMPORT OF VEHICLES
  • Title and Registration certificate (original)
  • Commercial invoice (original)
  • Driver’s license and international insurance policy (green card)
  • Bill of Lading (chassis and engine number, year of manufacture, brand, and model of the used vehicle should be clearly mentioned in BoL)
  • Passport (certified copy)
TAXATION
Customs duty imposed on the import of Japan used vehicles in Mozambique depends on the engine displacement:
The percent of customs duty charged is calculated on the CIF value of the used vehicle.
  • If engine displacement is more than 1500cc, 40% customs duty is charged.
  • If engine displacement is below 1500cc, 25% customs duty is charged.
  • For single cabs, 20% customs duty is charged
  • On the import of the minibus, no customs duty is charged.
