Used vehicles can be imported by the owner having been assigned a diplomatic status in Myanmar.

An application for a MoFA customs clearance certificate is required with the Bill of Lading by the UN Office or Embassy. The invoice of the car is also required for exemption in duty. The procedure from the MoFA office in Nay Pyi Taw usually takes 2-5 weeks.

Another way of customs clearance is by using special order formalities that will help in avoiding port storage and chances of demurrage. The necessary documents are required to be submitted to the local office.The Customs clearance procedure takes around 7 days if a MoFA certificate is obtained.

TAXATION

The duties and taxes imposed on the import of used Japanese cars are calculated on the CIF value of the car.

Vehicles having
  • Up to 1350 cc engine: 30% Customs duty + 25% Commercial Tax + 50% Road Test Registration
  • 1350 cc - 2000 cc engine: 40% Customs duty + 25% Commercial Tax + 80% Road Test Registration
  • 2000 cc - 5000 cc engine: 40% Customs duty + 25% Commercial Tax + 100% Road Test Registration
  • Above 5000 cc engine: 40% Customs duty + 25% Commercial Tax + 120% Road Test Registration
