Left-hand-drive used Japanese cars are permitted for import in Norway. Other ports in Norway for importing used vehicles from Japan are Port of Stavanger, Port of Borg, and Port of Bergen. Vehicles to be imported in Norway have to pass an inspection test that can be done at the Local Traffic Services offices. Approval from the Norwegian authorities is necessary to get the used Japanese vehicle registered in Norway and to pay the necessary taxes. The taxes are required to be paid at the Customs and Excise office after the inspection test has been passed.

CONDITIONS FOR DUTY-FREE IMPORT
  • A foreign customer intending to import a vehicle is relocating in Norway having a two-year visa. The vehicle has to be exported again to Norway at the end of two years.
  • The vehicle has been owned and registered in the name of the owner for no less than a year. Also, if the vehicle has been driven for no less than 5000 km or 3200 miles before importation.
  • The returning residents have lived abroad for no less than 5 years.
  • The customer has held a driving license in Norway for at least one year.
  • The vehicle to be imported is a used one and shows so.
  • The vehicle imported in Norway will not be permitted to be sold or dispose of for at least 2 years from its importation.
  • Vehicles to be imported must abide by the standards of safety and regulation in Norway.
  • The vehicle should be imported under 3 months after the owner has arrived in Norway.
After the approval from the Customs and payment of all necessary taxes, the used Japanese vehicle should be registered in Norway. The vehicle can be registered at the Public Roads Administration's Traffic Services Offices after the endorsement of registration card from the Customs.
