Only right-hand-drive used Japanese vehicles are permitted for import in Suriname.
Age restrictions for the import of the used Japanese vehicles-
  • Used cars that are less than 8 years old only are allowed for import in Suriname.
  • Used buses that are less than 15 years old only are allowed for import in Suriname.
  • Used trucks do not have any age restriction for imports.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR IMPORT OF VEHICLES
  • Bill of Lading
  • Passport and ID (copy)
  • Circulation Permit
  • Commercial invoice
  • Title and Registration certificate (original)
  • Driver’s license and International Insurance Policy (Green card)
  • Insurance certificate
TAXATION
  • The tax rate of 25% is imposed on the used vehicle from Japan if the CIF value is less than $25000.
  • The tax rate of 40% is imposed on the used vehicle from Japan if the CIF value is more than $25000.
  • Annual taxes are applicable to the vehicle depending on its weight.
  • Roundabout $120 may be charged for the delivery of the vehicle from port to the importer’s residence.
GUIDELINES FOR RESIDENTS OF BOTSWANA
Residents of Botswana are not allowed to use the vehicles imported from foreign countries for more than 14 days from the day of import. If somebody intends to use the foreign-registered vehicle in Botswana, then he/she must contact the Customs office. Defaulters would be charged penalties and even the vehicle could be seized.
GUIDELINES FOR FOREIGN DIPLOMAT
Foreign diplomats are given exemption from duties and taxes. For availing exemption, they have to produce the certificate of diplomatic clearance and proof of value. The importer has to get the used Japanese vehicle registered in Botswana and the driver’s license should be changed within 6 months of arrival.
