If the used car exported from Japan is intended to be used as a taxi, then the maximum age of the car should be less than 3 years from the manufacture date.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR IMPORT OF VEHICLES
  • Bill of Lading
  • Passport (original)
  • Customs Declaration Form or C-82 Form (4 copies)
  • CARICOM area invoice (to be provided by the supplier)
  • Supplier’s invoice
  • Import license
  • Deregistration certificate (date of manufacture, chassis number, and engine number should be clearly mentioned)
TAXATION
Duties and taxes imposed on the import of Japanese used cars in Trinidad and Tobago depend on the engine capacity of the vehicle.
  • For vehicles with up to 1599cc engine: 25% Import Duty, 15% VAT
  • For vehicles with 1600cc-2000cc engine: 35% Import Duty, 15% VAT
  • For vehicles with 2001cc-3000cc engine: 40% Import Duty, 15% VAT
  • For vehicles with 3000cc and above engine: 45% Import Duty, 15% VAT
Japanese used cars are popular in Trinidad and Tobago and can be easily imported in the country through a Japanese used car dealer.
