Right-hand drive used Japanese vehicles are permitted for import in Zimbabwe. However, the exception is given for the import of special purpose vehicles like fire engines and ambulances.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR THE IMPORT OF VEHICLES
The documents required for the import of Japan used cars in Zimbabwe are:
  • Passport
  • Residence permit
  • Registration document
  • Immigrants declaration document
  • Import license (if the vehicle has been owned for less than 6 months before import)
  • Invoice or agreement of sale
  • Document of freight
  • Document of insurance of the vehicle (to the country of importation)
TAXATION
Import tax rates imposed on the import of used Japanese vehicles depend on the engine capacity of the vehicle.
  • 60% - 80% of the tax rates are applicable to the import of non-commercial vehicles.
  • 25% - 40%of the tax rates are applicable to light passenger vehicles and station wagons.
  • 40% tax will be imposed for the import of vehicles which have less than 1500cc engine.
  • 0%- 60% tax will be imposed on the import of buses or mini-buses.
  • 25% surtax of the Value of Duty Purposes (VDP) will be charged for vehicles that are 5 years old.
  • 15% VAT is charged.
